Low-maintenance isn't synonymous with no-maintenance. I was interchanging the two for too many years.  From hair, jewelry, and accessories, to this new found love for quality makeup and a like-wise decent wardrobe, it's time to indulge a little. I'll show you what I'm currently loving, things I have my eye on, and products I'd recommend based on personal experience.  Everyone deserves to look as good as they feel, including myself.

The "finally" pant

The dreaded dress pant.

Part of my problem has always been [and will probably remain to be] the fact that I absolutely hate to try on clothing.  Let's take it a step further and I'll admit that I love ripping tags off of the garments before I even try them on!  If there were laws against this, I'd be a repeat offender for life... I'm a creature of habit and these are two bad habits I think I'll have for quite some time.  I'm okay with this.

One reason that I've never really cared to try on clothing [pants, especially] has been that I seem to have a very hard time finding pants that actually fit my body in the right areas.  What's that? You have the same problem, as well? Let's face it: every woman has come across this issue; maybe not in pants, but in tops, in bras, in everything but socks!  Sizing of clothing, to me, is right up there on the list of the Wonders of the Universe.

My body type is that of a very thick-skinned pear.  I'd say pear, but my middle is definitely thicker than a classic pear shape- but I did have a baby 3 1/2 months ago.  Regardless, I'm small in the chest and wide in the hips [and thighs, and middle, and arms, and everything but the bra!]. That's okay.  It took me many years to realize that even at my most fit time in my high school springboard diving days, these thighs always touched.  Hell, they do more than touch. Their relationship status has gained them a Common Law marriage and they act like they're still on the honeymoon, [Cheers, guys!]  and I don't foresee a divorce in their future.   I'm okay with that, too, in part, because I FINALLY found a great fitting dress pant!

Meet the Loft Trouser in Marisa fit.
Whoever this Marisa chick is, she's got her shit together.

I ordered the size I most commonly wear, and it seems like an accurate fit.  I must say, the length on these puppies are designed for a freaking runway model... I'm 5'4" and will need to get them hemmed, even with wearing a two inch heel most days.  The slightly stretchy and forgiving fabric has a hint of a sheen, but isn't shiny by any means.  The weight of the fabric is heavy enough to feel expensive, and light enough to wear year round.  My middle section is most flattered by a very wide-band waistline to help smooth and conceal the belly flab, and these stand up to the task.  [A skinny band ends up looking like a rubberband around a water balloon when I sit down - neither flattering nor comfortable].

Normally around $80, I waited until they were on sale [don't fret - Loft has constant sales], plus I used coupon codes and whatnot to buy mine for only around $38 a pair.  I have them in a super dark navy, black, and grey, and wish they were available in a khaki color.  Yes, I love them enough to want four!

Hats off [& pants on] to you, Marisa.

I'm so glad you found pants to fit. Believe me, I totally understand the dilemma and my body type and yours are quite different. Your descriptions are so fun to read, while being very informative!!!
